I have produced my first CD under the name Tima Town for my friend and musical mentor Jim Heineman.
About Jim
From sponsoring jazz legends to perform at University of Toronto's Convoaction Hall in the sixties, to establishing the Rex Hotel as a jazz hotspot in eighties, to playing a 12 year run at Nawlni's Jazz Bar until today , New York City born and bred Jim Heineman has been a mainstay of the live Toronto jazz scene for decades. Jim's influences include "mystical" nights witnessing performances by revolutionary players such as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Nina Simone, Thelonious Monk and Charles Mingus to name only a few and he counts Mary Lou Williams, George Coleman, James Moody, Lenny Breau and other greats among his mentors. He has also done his own share of mentoring, an important part of his musical legacy. Jim's soulful playing shines throughout his latest recording and his rich melodies and emphasis on "groove" demonstrate his talent as a composer; a testament to his impressive list of mentors. With the great response to his latest CD, Rh Postive, Jim is destined to finally recieve the recognition he deserves as one of "Canada's hidden treasures".

I was lucky enough to be invited to play The Trane's 5th anniversary party, playing with the legendary jazz violinist Billy Bang. The Trane is a fantastic jazz club in Toronto and we want to do all we can to support it. Mark our band leader was hired as the musical director for that night by Harvey Cowan Toronto's own jazz violinist who also played that night. Billy Bang was amazing. Check out the link for some of that gig. Billy comes in about 2 minutes into the video. keep your eye out for a wonderful moving documentary on Billy's brave return to Veit Nam since he fought in the war showing recently on PBS.

Controlled Demolition has been a band that I have played in for the few couple of years. The line up is Mark Hundevad on drums and vibes , Jim Heineman on sax, flute and vocals, Sam Heineman on piano, Glenn Fraser on guitar, and me Lucya Almeida on percussion. Not only are they a great group of people I honestly beleive some of Canada's finest and I feel extremely honoured to have this opportunity to play with such talent. Our Musical director Mark Hundevad will be included in a book that will be published this year called Legendary Jazz Drummer's of Canada, and along with our sax player Jim Heineman founded the jazz scene at the Rex Hotel 20 years ago back in 1988 when I first met them. They all play in a variety of ensembles with this one being one of the largest. We play a huge range, everything from Latin Jazz to Jimi Hendrix including some great original music by Jim and Mark. So come out and support live music and I know we'll make you want to shake you booty too !
Check out a show we did in Branford Ontario, wait for the amazing Armando Borg's solo on timabales.
